I Just Got LEV.
What is Housing Day?
Housing Day is the revered Harvard tradition (taking place this year on March 12) whereupon Harvard freshmen find out whether or not they have been placed in Leverett House for their next three years. For those lucky freshmen, Housing Day is celebrated as a festival with bunnies, hip-hop, and monkeybread galore! For the rest, the Housing Day Hotline (est. 1927) is always available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4_FXQH35eo
Are housing assignments really random?
At first, one may assume so. However, when one looks at the collection of awesome people in Leverett, one is forced to change one’s mind.
- FACT: In the last 30 years, Leverett House has produced more Rhodes and Marshall Scholars than all but two colleges in the world. We also have the most Phi Beta Kappa students of any House.
- FACT: Leverett produces more professional and Olympic athletes than half the Ivy League.
FACT: Leverett’s dining hall leads all other houses in energy reduction, in addition to feeding not only Leverett but all of Dunster House. - FACT: Leverites accounted for 75% of the total points scored by the Harvard varsity basketball team this season.
- FACT: Leverites rule: some distinguished alums include the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, the Secretary of Education, and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
- PROBABLY TRUE: Halo’s main character, Master Chief, is named after Howard Georgi.
What happens at the End of the Harvard?
Clearly there's a massive party at leverett house. Check it out:
And... What does it mean to float?
Floating is what you and your blocking group will be doing in the abyss of despair to which you will be reduced if you’re not placed in Leverett. Also refers to what Quincy House looks like when they try to do the bunny hop.
Can I get involved with House Events as a freshman?
While other houses may not be as welcoming to freshmen (coughAdamscough), here at Leverett we love all y’all. Come to the d-hall and chill with us any day of the week (except Thursday night--only Leverites for community night!)—we’d love to see you. Keep an eye out for HoCo’s baller Stein Clubs ("Let's be honest. I passionately -- like, PASSIONATELY -- love Lev Stein." –crasher from Quincy—true life), with non-alcoholic options and good times to be had by all. Chief and Coach’s Open Houses are also awesome (free monkeybread. ‘nuff said). Then there’s the 80s Dance (look out for some hott changes this year), and our sexy sexy Formal. Almost as sexy as formal? Physics Night. Wednesday nights—come test out your knowledge of tribology (the study of lubrication between bodies).
Is the dining hall food really better in the Houses?
It’s better in Leverett House.
Once Bonnie or Mary swipes you into our beautiful dining hall, you can see the sun set over the river as you eat crêpes freshly prepared by Chef Paula. After chatting with Arthur about his Green Skillet excellence, you can go shoot some hoops in IM basketball with grill masters Chris and Ray. Lev House Dining Hall—best food, best people.
